The Nigerian Air Force Turns 54 !!

NAF CELEBRATES 54TH ANNIVERSARY, COMMENCES WITH HISTORICAL PHOTO GALLERY DISPLAY

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 4 May 2018, commenced the celebration of its 54th Anniversary with a historical photo gallery display at the NAF Base Kaduna. The NAF historical photo gallery was aimed at depicting a progression of the evolvement of the NAF from infancy to a formidable Air Force capable of projecting air power not only in Nigeria but also beyond the shores of the country.

Putting aside political correct mumbo jumbo, roughly 70 percent of the NAF combat aircraftvare okd 3rd generation fighters of limited combat value against peer opponents, save perhaps in swarming attack if there was enough expendable aircrafts and pilots.

At any rate Abuja seems in no rush to replace all its older jets with new ones. Major new acquisitions are a joke, with earliest delivery of new platforms expected in 2020 at best.

The HIND is never employed individually — always in sections of two and where possible in flights of six.

However, the technical capabilities of aircraft are just half the story; at least as important are training, organizational doctrine and supporting assets ranging from aerial reconnaisance to  ground-based radars and airborne command posts.

For example, Nigeria has the intel resources, surveilance aircrafts, drones and sattelites in orbit to provide real-time 24 hours reconnaissance over a given area. The doctrine and experience to link these elements together to form a kill chain was borne out of the decade long war against the worlds deadliest terrorist group – Boko Haram. The war gave aviation units an opportunity to train under realistic conditions and develop experience in joint operations with ground and naval forces.
